week 11
Portraits
For this weeks portraits I decided to take pictures of Conor (the little boy I nanny for) and my niece Bella. For Conors picture I cropped the image and used the dodge and burn tools and also the clone tool to get rid of a few marks on the floor. the biggest difficulty I had with Conor's portrait was the lighting on his shirt. I had the shot set up in front of a big picture window to allow enough natural light but it I couldn't get his white shirt to not be over exposed. I tried to darken it some through Gimp but it is still a little bright.
With the picture of Bella the hardest thing I faced was getting her to look at me! She loves to dance so I wanted to take pictures of her at a concert in a park that we went to. she has the most beautiful smile which lights up her face. Unfortunately every time she smiled she turned her head! So for the photo of her I decided to use a photo that captures her crazy side. The only thing I did to this photo was crop a little off the top and blur the background.
For this picture I used the same photo but played around with gray scale and color. I think I like this one the best.

week 10
Photo Story Preview
Below are 16 photos (all unedited) that I am going to use for my photo story. I have a few pictures that I am going to be morphing into one photo that is why I have more than 10. Also I realize the clock seems a little out of place but once I edit it and combine it with a few pictures it will make more sense. Also they are not in the right order, I couldn't get them to go where I wanted them too Sorry
week 10
Clone and Paint
For this first picture I used the clone tool to get rid of a ripple in the water that took the focus away from Conor. Then just for fun I cloned Conor, this would be an easy way to add a reflection of shadow. It doesn't really work with this picture because I couldn't get the cloned Conor to be as dark as the original but it was a good way to experiment.
These next two photos are from my photo story. For the first one I made a duplicate copy and turned one of them black and white, next I added a layer mask to the black and white copy. On the color copy I used the color select tool to select all the gold then on the layer mask I used the paint brush tool to paint over the letters and the gold showed through.
For this last one I did it a little differently, I did the same thing to turn the photo black and white then I added a transparent layer. On that layer I selected the pant brush and painted over the eyes, while the layer was still selected I went to the Mode drop bar and selected "color" then erased any where I got blue that I didn't want it.

Dodge Burn and Filters
Dodge, Burn and Filter
For this picture of my sister and niece I used the dodge and burn tools to lighten my nieces face and to darken the purple in the foreground.
For these next two pictures I played around with the supernova filter and the different border affects. I also used the burn tool to darken the pictures

Color and Lighting
Color and Lighting
For Both of my photos this week I played around with adjusting the brightness and the contrast of the photo. for the picture of the balloon I also played around with the background color and decided to turn it gray scale. The picture of my dog Bosco I also cropped. The originals are at the bottom of the page.

Selection Tool
Using Gimp
This week I took three separate photos and played around with them in Gimp. Once I liked how the photos looked I then cropped the photos and placed them on top of one another in the frame. This is my mom holding a picture of her daughter (my sister Nicole), and Nicole holding a picture of her daughters.

Assignment 2
Landscapes
I absolutely love taking landscape photos, but actually struggled to get "the right shot" this week. It was pretty rainy or overcast for the most part, and I was out of town most of the week. This first picture is from the Waterbury Reservoir. I really liked the framing with the trees but wish the tuff of leaves were not touching the sky on the right hand side. I couldn't get the angle just right.
This next photo I liked how the train trestle reflected in the water, and broke up the shot. Wind hadn't been blowing so hard the water would have been calmer and would have reflected better.
This photo I liked how bright the sky was against the dark mountains in the distance.
This one is another from the Reservoir that I liked.

Framing
Framing
For this first shot I used and actual frame. My goal was to draw your eye away from my sisters back and to my other sisters face (they are twins). I think this would have worked better had I had a different color frame. this picture is pretty monotone and a bright frame would have worked better, maybe red of blue.
For this next photo I used the trees to frame my little friend, unfortunately he wasn't in the mood for a picture and wouldn't stop growling at me lol
This next photo I'm not sure if it really works or not. I wanted the focus to be the blue sky and having the girl in the window watching. I think the sky would be more of a focus if there had been something in it.
This picture I used the white window frame to frame the flowers. I was hoping to have the flowers stand out more and the background less but the dark screen and the shallowness of the porch made it difficult.
This next shot is of the clouds last night. I have never seen these colors before and tried to frame the shot using the dark trees below.
This photo was taken through a pool tube. I think it's a fun idea but would have worked better if my subject (Conor) was more into getting his picture taken and would have turned around.
